Introductory workshop in the working process of forthcoming co-production of dance performance “In C”.

“In C” will be a co-production of Toplocentrala and Sasha Waltz & Guests (Germany)

About this workshop
As a first stage of the rehearsal process, during the Festival a specially selected group of 10 to 12 professional Bulgarian dancers will be introduced in the concept and composition of the performance “In C”.

The second stage (January – March 2022) Within the span of 2-3 weeks, each dancer will work individually and will be supported by video tutorials provided by Sasha Waltz & Guests.

The third and final stage (March – April 2022) prior to the Bulgarian premiere of the co-production of “In C”, Bulgarian dancers will take a 10-14 days intensive workshop under the mentorship of a leading dancer from the company Sasha Waltz & Guests company.


About Orlando Rodriguez
Orlando Rodriguez was born 1974 in Caracas, Venezuela. He made his first steps both in theatre and dance. In 2002 he graduated from the National Experimental University of the Arts in Caracas. Between 2004 and 2007, he benefited from a scholarship to study at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, Germany.

He is now a freelance performer and choreographer in Europe, based in Berlin, and has been collaborating among others with MOUVOIR/Stephanie Thiersch (DE), Davide Camplani (IT/DE), Cie. Morphose / Soraya Thomas (FR), Vincent Bozek (FR/DE), Verónica Santiago (VE/US) and Sergiu Matis (RO/DE) Since 2009 he follows different engagements with Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin, performing and collaborating in many projects worldwide: »Impromptus«, »Continu«, »Métamorphoses«, »Matsukaze«, »MusicTANZ – Carmen«, »Sacre«, »Tannhäuser«, »Orfeo« and »Roméo et Juilette«, as well as in »Dialogue«-projects by Sasha Waltz.

He has most recently collaborated with Sasha Waltz in the creation of »In C«. His curiosity and interest in sharing and transmitting knowledge around body practices lead him to give different Master Classes and workshops in Germany, France, Venezuela, Lithuania and Madagascar among others. A continuous interest in developing multiple performing strategies took him to participate in different workshops and artistic experiences as professional dancer in Europe. He likes to challenge his collaborators in finding specific ways of addressing emotions, body language and contact with the audience, in regards to the pulse of the time.

The company Sasha Waltz & Guests was founded by Sasha Waltz and Jochen Sandig in Berlin in 1993. To date, more than 300 artists and ensembles of different disciplines from 30 countries have collaborated as “Guests” on over 80 productions, “Dialoge” projects and films. Sasha Waltz & Guests works in an international and constantly evolving network of production and guest performance partners. The company has contributed to the establishing of innovative production sites for artistic dialogue such as Sophiensaele (1996) and radialsystem, Space for Arts & Ideas (2006). 2013 the company has been named »European Cultural Ambassador« by the European Union. In 2014 Sasha Waltz & Guests was awarded the »george tabori ehrenpreis« by the Fonds Darstellende Künste.

Apart from Berlin stagings, national and international guest performances and the continual work on the repertoire, Sasha Waltz & Guests has been increasingly committed to educational and social projects. In 2007, the Children’s Dance Company (»Kindertanzcompany«) was founded and since 2016 the interdisciplinary and open exchange platform »ZUHÖREN« serves as a »third space for art and politics«. Alongside these initiatives, the company continues to propose diverse offers in the field of knowledge transfer.
