Absolute beginners

Venelin Shurelov (Bulgaria)

“I’ve nothing much to offer
There’s nothing much to take
I’m an absolute beginner
And I’m absolutely sane
As long as we’re together
The rest can go to hell”
David Bowie

It is noteworthy that the digital arts are hard to reach for beginners. Understanding their specifics and “speaking” their language requires broad literacy. Undoubtedly, the complex skills in electronics, mathematics, programming and basic drawing skills are a great advantage, but should be combined with a rich theoretical culture, excellent knowledge of art history, all kinds of skills, communication skills, publicity, teamwork, social commitment, construction of communities, project management, relationship with institutions, pedagogical practice, lecture experience, curatorial initiatives. Few can combine such versatility and be consistent in a highly demanding environment.
If you are at any stage in the mastery of these specific artistic practices, you will have to repeatedly answer the question: What is digital art? The workshop offers a training to deal with this intrusive question.
