About the workshop

In two consecutive meetings we’ll have a deep taste of the work of the Berlin based choreographer Sasha Waltz, meetings guided by Michal Mualem, a dancer, assistant and collaborator with the choreographer since 2001.

This is part of ACT´s plan to invite Sasha Waltz and her company to Bulgaria in 2021.

Each meeting will have a different focus:

As a first step we will focus on the introduction of Sasha Waltz’s way of working, experiencing by improvisation sections the ideas and tasks Sasha works with in a research phase with her dancers.

First meeting: 10:00-17:00

10:00-11:30 – a contemporary class based on release technique.
11:45-14:15 – Sasha’s repertory focused on solo work from the pieces:
noBody, Sacre, Orfeo
14:15-15:00 – break
15:00-17:00 – Sasha’s repertory focused on solo work from the pieces:
noBody, Sacre, Orfeo

Second meeting – 10:00-17:00

10:00-11:30 – class
11:45-14:15 – Sasha’s repertory focused on a duo/contact work (if contact
work is not restricted) and choreography/composition of group materials from the pieces: Impromptus, Continue, noBody.
14:15-15:00 – break
15:00-17:00 – preparation for open showing

In both meetings we will work first on the ideas, tasks and motivations which inspired Sasha Waltz to investigate and explore certain qualities from which the dancers later on in the process have created and built materials.

The solo work we’ll be more detail oriented, the duet work will put in focus the listening and dependency between two bodies, two people.

We’ll keep certain qualities improvised, especially in the group composition materials and concentrate on group dynamic and space orientation in relation to other people who moves parallel around us.

The two meetings will be complementary to each other.
