About the workshop

Workshops with Israel Aloni are guided by the complexed multidimensionality of both the experience and the responsibility of a contemporary dance performer. They involve movement research and exploration which expand the range of possibilities and potentialities for the body by accessing the full capacity of the mind, including dream state and fantasy. Also, Aloni’s work addresses the agency and authorship of the dancer in the context of performance. During the workshop Aloni shares tools and references from their wholesome practice – The I.Aloni Experience.

About Israel Aloni

Israel Aloni is an independent choreographer, educator, performer, writer and provocateur. Their choreographic work has been presented around the world. They have been continuously developing a powerful artistic voice which transcend boarders and truly captivates the audience.

Aloni’s work often addresses social-political topics and masterfully converses with the public discourse, such examples include; HERE THERE YET NOWHERE from the international co-production GODLIKE (2016), where Aloni interrogated the impact of fanaticism on sanity, #GHETTO (2017) they addressed the distractive effect of labels and tags on compassion and solidarity, and My Body My Nation (2019) where Aloni attempts to decolonise their own non-white, non-binary and non-conforming physical body from concepts, philosophies and behaviours which have been forced upon it.

Aloni strongly believes in collaborative creation and making methodologies as means of stimulation and a necessity for the advancing of current practices. They see art as a catalyst of social and cultural narratives as well as an invaluable apparatus for the evolvement of our communities.

Both in their artistic practice and the ways in which they initiate and manage international projects, Aloni purposefully promotes democratic, horizontal and equal practices in opposition to current regimes and governance which threaten our liberty and safety.

As a performer for nearly two decades, Aloni created and performed a vast repertoire of globally acclaimed choreographers such as Sasha Waltz, Mats Ek, Wim Vadekaybus and Club Guy And Roni to name a few.

Aloni is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of ilDance, an independent contemporary dance organization based in Gothenburg. More for Aloni and his work here – http://www.ildance.se.

ACT Festival 2020 is presenting on 21 October 2020 (Wednesday) from 19:00 Israel Aloni’s performance My Body My Nation.
