                                                              ACT Independent Theater Festival #8

                                                                      under the motto: POST-POST

from 19 to 25 October 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria

“The tribal community lived in the totality of circular time; the farmers of God’s universe understood be- fore and after; workers of the clockwork universe lived by the tick; and we creatures of the digital era must relate to the pulse.”

Douglas Rushkoff

Tired of the trivial and in search of the surprising, we announce the beginning of the eighth edition of ACT Independent Theater Festival. POST-POST time of the unfamiliar. For the eighth year, the theatrical platform is in search of new forms and experiments in art.

What is the world pulse of today? What is its frequency? Is this rhythm measurable at all? Where do we stand in this web of posts – from the constellations of meanings such as postmodernism, postdramatic, postdigital to posts in the social networks, entwining us in an endless information stream? We do not know, but we try, we seek, we find.

And somewhere between the endless clicks, we launch live. With 8 Bulgarian performances (from the previous year) and 4 international theater performances from Germany, France, Israel and a German-Balkan co-production. With contemporary, awake, brave performing art.

Annually, ACT Festival presents the contemporary theater, dance and performance – as bright representatives of the time of discovery without asking whether they are answers or questions.

We will celebrate the 50th anniversary of 1968 (an important year in our world) with a big public discussion and The Invisible Republic performance, created in coproduction with one of Berlin’s leading independent groups.

We will measure a new theater pulse with two Master classes for independent artists – with the provocative performance-dance company United Cowboys (Netherlands) and Nullo Facchini team with Cantabile 2 (Denmark) with their original “human specific” theater.

We will glimpse at 2019’s autumn with the assistance of the new work group, which is preparing the first steps of the greatly anticipated Center for Contemporary Art “Toplocentrala”.

We will outline the differences in resemblance traits with the meeting The European Map of Independent Theater and we will present the implementation of the large and ambitious project for a united European association.

We will discover much more. But we do not have enough symbols on this page to continue.

ACT Independent Theater Festival 2018 is realized with the financial support of Sofia Municipality, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the National Culture Fund.
